Romania has participated in the Mlovision Song Contest only one time. They made their début in 2016 with Romanian rock singer Ovidiu Anton.

In 2016, Romanian rock singer Ovidiu Anton took part in the Selecția Națională 2016, the Romanian preselection to choose their next entry in the Eurovision Song Contest the same year. His song, "Moment of Silence", won with 6,5856 votes from the public. However, almost two months before the Eurovision Song Contest, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) announced that the country could not be able to take part in the contest due to a long history of debts. The song was disqualified from the competition.

Months later, "Moment of Silence", was chosen to take part in the Mlovision Song Contest 2016. The song was performed 8th in the event and at the end of the voting, Anton got 27 points from the jury and 50 points from Mlo. Finally, the song finished 10th in a field of 16 entries.
